Comment: The sun setting behind the hills, on my way back from Miyajima one day.

PC160020 * This is Mihiro, one of my third year students, at an International Youth Day thing, where she was dressed up in a ludicrously expensive fancy kimono for a fashion show. She's planning to spend the next few years on working holiday in Canada, and has expressed to me her concerns about whether or not she'll be popular with foreign guys. Whenever she asks me I just laugh, and she can't understand why. She's beautiful to begin with, but if she ever dresses up like that, she'll have to fight the guys off with a stick. * 2272 x 1704 * (2.3MB)

IMG_0206 * At long last, a picture with all my English teachers! Well, a few are missing, but close enough. This picture was from our New Year party, and judging from the condition of the table it was sometime near the end of the party.
So, introductions! I was going to go into really lengthy stories about all of them, but I don't want to get in trouble with my Board of Education, so I'll keep it simple. The guy sitting front left is my supervisor, a great guy who has helped me so much that I can't begin to describe it all. The woman sitting in front of me is a fantastic teacher, known by most as my Japanese mother. We work great together in class, and she's always concerned about me outside of class too.
They're really a wonderful bunch of teachers, and they're a big part of why I'm so comfortable here! * 3264 x 2448 * (3.64MB)

IMG_0209 * I went to Matsuyama, a lovely small city on Shikoku, with my girlfriend last month. We happened across a nice restaurant that prepared this beautiful assortment of small dishes for lunch. All delicious, and only about $12. At a time when I had just returned from home and was missing American food pretty badly, it was a small revelation, a powerful reminder of how exquisite Japanese food can be. * 3264 x 2448 * (3.9MB)

IMG_0211 * This is my girlfriend, Kana. I'm not exactly thrilled with this picture (I think we can do better), but here you are. I'll avoid long introductions, but just say that things have progressed pretty quickly, and we're very happy right now. In this picture, we're standing in front of Dogo Onsen, one of the most famous bath houses in Japan, and the inspiration for the bath house in Miyazaki's Spirited Away. * 3264 x 2448 * (2.89MB)

IMG_0276 * In this picture are most (not all) of my best JET friends in Hiroshima. The guy up front is Graham, from Ireland. Next to me is Cybil from Toronto, and Chie, one of her Japanese teachers. The next two around the horn are Marshall and Jen, both from LA. Then comes Isaac from...Wyoming or something? I don't remember. Next is Judy, from all over the place (Hungary, Austria, others), and halfway pictured there is Heather. I've been good friends with Cybil since I first got here, with Jen since last year, and with Judy since about an hour before this picture was taken. Everyone else is scattered in between, but they're all great people, and I'm more than a little bit bummed that most of them are leaving this year! * 3264 x 2448 * (4.06MB)
